Vehicle history check: MOT test history and mileage signals
73 Auto's vehicle history check reads a UK car's full DVSA MOT test history — every test date, pass/fail result, recorded mileage, and defect or advisory — and flags mileage inconsistencies between tests. It is a genuine, official-records history check, but it is not a full provenance check: it does not cover stolen-vehicle, outstanding-finance or insurance write-off status.

What's included
- Full MOT test-by-test history — every recorded test date, pass or fail result, mileage reading, expiry date, test number and any defects or advisories, sourced from DVSA.
- Mileage consistency check — 73 Auto compares the mileage recorded at each MOT test and flags it as a risk signal if the reading has decreased between tests — a potential sign of mileage discrepancy worth investigating further before you buy.
- Recurring issue patterns — categories such as brakes or tyres that come up repeatedly across the MOT history, plus an overall MOT health signal built from the same records.
- Export marker — whether DVLA records currently show the vehicle marked for export.
What's not included
73 Auto should not be treated as a stolen-vehicle check or an outstanding-finance check, and it does not currently provide full vehicle provenance data (previous keeper count, insurance write-off category, plate or colour change history). We're separately applying for additional datasets to extend this in future — today, use a specialist provenance check alongside 73 Auto if you need to rule out stolen status, outstanding finance or a write-off record before buying. See the FAQ for the full picture.
Where this data comes from
Every figure here is read live from the DVSA MOT History API and the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry API at the time of your check, then cached for around 24 hours per registration. See data sources for the full breakdown of what's live, what's fixed, and what's a 73 Auto estimate. For current MOT status and expiry specifically, see MOT check.
