Road tax 2026/27

Porsche 911 road tax in 2026/27

Road tax (VED) on a Porsche 911 in 2026/27 depends on when it was first registered. One first registered between 1 March 2001 and 31 March 2017 pays by CO2 band: across the 277 versions in the Vehicle Certification Agency's CO2 database from 2002 to 2016, that is £225 (band F) to £790 (band M) for 12 months, most often £445 (band K). One first registered from 1 April 2017 pays the £200 standard rate each year after its first (plus £440 a year in years 2 to 6 if its list price was over £40,000, or £50,000 for an electric car registered from 1 April 2025). Bought new in 2026/27, the first-year rate across the 20 versions in the VCA database on 28 September 2026 is £4,850 to £5,690, set by WLTP CO2. Cars first registered before March 2001 pay by engine size: £230 up to 1,549cc, £375 above.

Which Porsche 911 is cheapest to tax

0% of the Porsche 911 versions sold between 2002 and 2016 pay less than the £200 a newer car pays, because their CO2 figure puts them in a band below it. The cheapest listed was the 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet Manual (3800cc petrol, M6) at 141g/km (£225); the dearest the 911 Turbo Cabriolet Tiptronic S (3600cc petrol, A5) at 328g/km (£790).

Of the 52,411 Porsche 911s licensed in the UK at 31 December 2025 (DfT), 42% were first used between 2002 and 2016 and so pay by CO2 band, 36% from 2018 onwards and pay the flat rate, and 17% before 2001, taxed by engine size; the remaining 5% were first used in 2001 or 2017, when the rules changed part-way through the year.

Porsche 911 registered from April 2017

A new Porsche 911 pays a one-off first-year rate set by its WLTP CO2 figure, then £200 a year. Of the 20 versions in the VCA database on 28 September 2026, the cheapest first year is the 911 911 Carrera Cabriolet (2981cc petrol, A8) at 237g/km (£4,850) and the dearest the 911 911 GT3 with Touring Package (3996cc petrol, A7) at 312g/km (£5,690). The first-year rate is normally included in a new car's on-the-road price; a used buyer pays from the standard rate.

Expensive Car Supplement: of the 37 Porsche 911 versions sold since September 2025 that could still be paying it in 2026/27, 73 Auto's list-price reference confirms 37 cost over the threshold and pay £440 a year on top, and 0 cost less; the list price of the other 0 is not known to us, so we do not say either way.

Limitations

Rates are the 2026/27 rates for a 12-month licence taken out from 2026-04-01; paying monthly or for six months costs slightly more. The CO2 figure is the official type-approval figure the VCA published when each version was on sale, which is normally the figure on the V5C, but a car's own V5C is what DVLA uses. Some versions were sold under a different model name (for example estate or MPV variants), and the VCA's list does not say how many of each were sold, so the version counts are not a guide to how common each band is on the road. The Expensive Car Supplement depends on the original list price including options, which the VCA list does not carry. Figures are calculated with 73 Auto's VED engine from the DVLA rate tables.
